Open Range was a great movie, along with Broken Trail. The Outlaw Josey Wales is one of the greatest movies of all time, not just a Western, in my opinion. It’s about a journey to redemption, a return to peace and civilization after a horrible war, the connections that make us all human and about much needed vengeance. What a great story, with great acting and direction.

Somebody mentioned Pale Rider, which is good, but it is nearly a scene-by-scene remake of Shane.
The underrated The Outlaw Josey Wales will always be one of my favorites of any genre...
“Paint Your Wagon” is an underrated western. The cinematography coupled with costuming and set authenticity set it ahead of other westerns of its time. The scene where the stagecoach full of whores is driven into camp is spectacular.
It also captures the ‘take life as it comes’ and boastfullness of the mining camps that Mark Twain wrote about. Besides Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood singing and dancing, what’s not to like?
