“Paint Your Wagon” is an underrated western. The cinematography coupled with costuming and set authenticity set it ahead of other westerns of its time. The scene where the stagecoach full of whores is driven into camp is spectacular.

It also captures the ‘take life as it comes’ and boastfullness of the mining camps that Mark Twain wrote about. Besides Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood singing and dancing, what’s not to like?
