Actually, this is the SEQUEL to the stupid remake (the remake was 2005's King Kong, directed by Peter Jackson)
This is basically the 21st century equivilent to 1986's King Kong Lives (which was a sequel to the stupid remake from 1976, King Kong)

Mediocre? The 1933 movie was ground-breaking with visuals and special-effects. That scene of Kong towering over NYC skyscrapers is still impressive by today’s standards.
