Paranoid New Yorkers now have a speedy way out of the city should disaster strike.
Chris Dowhie, co-owner of Plan B Marine, runs a marine evacuation service which advertises the fastest possible way out of Manhattan.
Whether its power failure, blackouts, grid failure, bad weather, flooding or a terrorist attack, Dowhies clients want to be prepared for doomsday.

Soooo...he takes their money now for a service promised to be performed in the future, and if he doesn’t deliver...the customers will be too dead to do anything about it.
Nice racket.
There’s a sucker born every minute - contractual obligations don’t mean squat in a doomsday scenario.
I remember a beautiful, clear, Tuesday morning a few years ago......
Unless both parties survive and order is restored. Unlikely in doomsday.
Rich people who worry about this are already pursuing the Warren Buffett strategy. It’s not nearly as hard as it used to be to oversee your business interests from Omaha, Nebraska - or even rural Wyoming.

OK, how long did it take for the government to shut down the piers in NYC after 9/11?
It took hours to give the order to shut down air traffic, and that was a simple order from the president.
What they need to do is buy a stool. Stand on it. And kiss their asses goodbye.
If the majority of NYC rich people voted for Hillary, who cares if they escape disaster?
Totally Agree
Your timeline is a bit off
8:45 1WTC hit
9:03 2WTC hit
9:17 All NYC area airports closed
9:21 All NYC area bridges and tunnels closed to vehicular traffic
9:40 The FAA halts all flight operations at U.S. airports
You are correct on the FAA, as I was only using decades old personal recollection from radio and tv reports.
So, when did they close the piers?
Not a bad idea
< I was there.
Nowheres near the number of piers in Manhattan as there once were. Closing the piers would have been a waste of resources. You don't have to close the piers when you control the waterways.

OK, but it still takes resources. And you are going to stop outgoing boat traffic for what reason?
It could happen, but stopping people from *leaving* a disaster, in perfectly good private transportation? Why?
Sure, could happen, but seems unlikely.
I do not recall any shut down of boats leaving New Orleans when the Hurricane hit, for example.
New York is a different culture. I would expect people with boats there to be well heeled.
I’ll be the one offering swimming lessons. Cash up front, of course.
If the PTB wanted to, they could very easily. West 79 st. Marina, East 23 st. marina and Battery Park marina are it.
You said they couldn’t shut the city down for hours or days. I’ve proven they can very quickly.
Look FRiend, I’ll listen to you when it comes to guns and gun laws, but Fun City just ain’t your bag.
