Old Geezer's lament received in email.
I used to think I was just a regular guy, but . . .
I was born white, which now, whether I like it or not, makes me a racist.
I am a fiscal and moral conservative, which by today's standards, makes me a fascist.
I am heterosexual, which according to gay folks, now makes me a homophobic.
I am non-union, which makes me a traitor to the working class and an ally of big business.
I am a Christian, which now labels me as an infidel.
I believe in the 2nd Amendment, which now makes me a member of the vast gun lobby.
I am older than 70, which makes me a useless old man.
I think and I reason, therefore I doubt much that the main stream media tells me, which must make me a reactionary.
I am proud of my heritage and our inclusive American culture, which makes me a xenophobe.
I value my safety and that of my family and I appreciate the police and the legal system, which makes me a right-wing extremist.
I believe in hard work, fair play, and fair compensation according to each individual's merits, which today makes me an anti-socialist.
I believe in the defense and protection of the homeland for and by all citizens, which now makes me a militant.
Recently, a sick old woman called me and my friends a basket of deplorables.
Please help me come to terms with the new me . . . because I'm just not sure who I am anymore!

see post #19 I keep misspelling your tag;)
My favorite way to put it is, “This gettin’ old sh*t is gettin’ old.”
“but I am a Cranky Old Woman “
_
Me too. I’m sitting here wasting time and arguing with myself over which I should do,empty the dishwasher or change the sheets.
Decisions,decisions. :-)
.
Good post, my FRiend and so true.
God bless.
One of the weirder things about it (among many) is that stranger who shows up in my mirror most mornings !
I’m a couple decades younger than you. But recently I gave pretty much the same speech at the office. I ended mine with “I’m a middle aged, white , Christian male. I am the root cause off everyone’s problems!” My Jewish coworker leaned back in his chair and said “Dude. Please...”
sodpoodle, you’re one of my own kind. I love this post, totally enjoyed it and thanks!
As a female well into her 70’s, I can also relate. Had a discussion last week with my teenage grandson about why I don’t fly. Compared time it takes to drive portal to portal versus fly (Houston to Dallas), check in, stand in line, get groped by TSA, stand in line again, fly, wait for bags, rent a car, etc. Also explained the “hassle factor” to him. Life today just has too many of them. Their generation only knows now so have nothing to use for comparison. I remember when life was a whole lot easier - there is a simpler way to get from point A to point B in any process then we have to go through now.
At this Sunday dinner, I looked across the dinner table and was shocked to see my 15 year old grandson looking back at me and saw that he looked just like I did 60 years ago. It was like looking into a mirror that took me back 60 years, and before I could recover from that, I looked further down the table and saw my father looking back at me, but, of course, it wasn't my long dead father, it was my 45 year old son who now looks exactly like my father did the last time I saw him before he died in 1955. And sitting beside my son was my grand daughter who is now an exact copy of her grand mother (my wife) circa 1968.
Yes, life gets stranger and stranger on this end.
which would be dying young.....both of my brothers, my sister and a number of my comrades from the service ALL said “Don’t get old. It’s not nice.”
I am 82 YO and feel like a new man with President Trump as our President. I was concerned that I would be fighting CW2 if Hillary had won.
My Wife and I are healthy and we take care of business in good form. I attended the Inauguration on Jan.w0,×01\.
Sorry for the errors in my previous Posting. It seemed as though I ran out of space.
The date is Jan. 20, 2017
but what about the love I had for my grandma ...the one who I spent literally every weekend with when I was 14 ...the one who was like a mom to me. The one who instilled in me decency, light heartedness, kindness, and just that “twinkle” quality? Everyone loved her ...
That was my grandma ...and she was well into her late 60’s when she did all this. The influence she had on me was profound ... she’s the reason I’m a decent human being. She was so cute ...she had these little silver signature glasses, and beautiful white hair. We used to laugh and laugh. I want to be JUST like her to my grandchildren, the first of who will be arriving in August!
Just be you. You are GREAT. Spend time with those grandkids and pass along all that greatness! You will be remembered forever for it ...
LOL! I ain’t 70, and I hispanic, but the rest pretty much applies to me.
I’m only 59, but can relate to all of this. The part that gets me the most is when I read about you (all) and some of my non-FReeper friends who are enjoying decades long marriages. As a result of poor choices in life I have missed that. It is my greatest regret.
Don’t let it razzle you. The current climate crop of arrogant pc morons reject Absolute Truth and they most likely won’t inherit the eternal heaven either. A pitiful bunch of lesser ingrates.
“Growing old ain’t for sissies”, as somebody famous once said, but I’m old and can’t remember who it was.....
Sod, I suggest you change “homeland” to “country”. Nation is even more old-fashioned. That way every word betrays you as an old geezer.
