Three years ago we started seeds in mid-January. It was a fight to keep them going in the weak winter sun in our greenhouse. Two years ago, Feb 10 seemed like a good start date but we battled cold overnights and lost some due to temps even a covered raised bed couldn't take.
This year we'll see how starting around March 1 does for us. Mid-Missouri weather can be fickle...

I have had similar issues - our Mo. weather is equally fickle I guess. I was able to keep a few tomato branches going this winter, but got no blooms or tomatoes, so they may have been determinates.
