Back in the days when people were occasionally sane this would have been regarded as a gift from heaven and you would have had thousands of people on that beach turning the whales into usable product.
Now that is not allowed.
So we have an major cleanup with no reward.

Relax, it was just Lena Dunham in a bathing suit.
Still, I wouldn’t want to be around when she explodes.

If something like this happened in the arctic, it would look like a polar bear convention had been convened. Doesn’t matter how badly the whale remains stunk, the bears would gobble it down and come back for seconds.

Excellent point. The Maori in their natural state would have been all set!

"These moronic creatures beach themselves by the hundreds, for reasons we cant fathom, and we defy their instincts and wishes by dragging them back"
this statement could apply to humans as well, as we try to salvage all the people purposedly destroying their lives with drugs/alcohol etc...

Yeah, except people — SOME people — are worthy of the extreme measures. These are whales. This is less about compassion than it is about hubris, the presumption that nature makes mistakes that we humans are obligated to “correct.”
