My grandmother had a boating accident and her AK-47 got dumped into the lake. Now shes looking for a replacement.
She has $500 from winning 1st prize for pickled beets at last years state fair and can kick in another $700 from her kitty cat fund. So her budget is set at $1,200.
The Bulgarian 7.62x39mm SAM7R-51 from Arsenal appeals to her.
Atlantic Firearms has a Polish AK47 Rifle WBP Classic Wood W/ Range Pack on sale for $979 and an AK47 Rifle Battlefield Pick-Up Romy VPG for $739.
Do any of you FReepers have experience with these rifles?
Pros and cons?
Recommendations?
Other suggestions?
Grandma thanks you.
The WASR 10 looks good. Affordable price. I’ll have grandma check it out.
I have a WASR, and a fiend has property we can shoot at. One of his friends is from Lithuania. Vitas was the national champion in the Lithuanian Army for breaking down and re assembling the Ak 47. So, he did mine after too much vodka and too many Nasdarovya’s and cut his hand while breaking it down. He proclaimed my WASR is junk.
Shoots 410 shotgun or .45 caliber bullets
Good for indoor home protection and it won't take out a structural support.
Yup, nice milled receiver on those. At least the one I had.
Nice prices. Thanks.
I have a Bulgarian AK74 5.45x39. Accurate out to 200 metres right out of the box. Runs about $1000 if you can find one.
I bought an Arsenal Bulgarian AK and later bought a WASR. I gave the Arsenal to my son because I like the WASR better.
Have grandma make sure she only purchases one in person though and confirm that it’s one of the new imports. Check the FSB for cants.
It’s a beast and she won’t regret it. Tell her to put a dynacomp on it and it’ll feel like a .223 when she’s squirrel hunting with it.
That’s great to hear that you came to the same conclusion!
I’ve heard nothing but great things about the recent string of WASR imports.
“Id like to meet your Grandma”
Grandma said if you pick her up in a jeep with a .50 cal mounted in back, it’s a date.
How deep? Heck, I might dive for it.
Get her a Benelli 28 Gauge Auto 3” Magnum.
WASR-10 is fine for the spray and pray crowd. If you want to actually hit something, there are very affordable ARs available.
You too, Vlad? Sounds like we all have Grandma's who lose their AK-47's in deep water. One of my Grandma's lost hers down a hole when ice fishing, while trying to take out a seal who was pilfering her fish before she could haul them in. My other Grandma lost hers on the 5-masted clipper ship coming across the Pacific to America from Ireland during the Great Potato Famine. But at least she and her sisters - all of them packing AK-47's - helped take out the lion's share of the Barbary Pirates who were trying to board them. (Their menfolk who fought alongside them insisted on using manly cutlasses to fight off the corsairs).
After owning both I came to the conclusion that a high end AK is kind of silly.
You know that funky wooden forward grip on some Romanian AKs, it curves forward so you can get the magazine in?
I found out what it’s called the other day.
It’s called a `dong’. ARs don’t have dongs.
You can also look for a Saiga which is the civilian version.
Why go with a 47?
Get something that will reach out and touch somebody.

I agree, and with the new batch of WASR’s that are already built like beasts, you’ll waste every penny spent buying something of “better quality”.
