We are close to retirement. I personally think we should just leave. We have savings. We have an expensive California home. I think living in a tiny house in Texas would be better than out here!
Georgia is a great state....particularly north of Atlanta
Tiny houses by Texas standards are about two thousand square feet.
If you've got two hundred thousand in equity in your place, you'll be amazed at how much house you can get for it in Texas.
My 2,200 square foot, 1985 brick house, just outside of Dallas is worth about $160,000.
We had a situation similar to yours. We were close to retirement. We lived in California. We had savings and an expensive home. Having had enough we decided to relocate to eastern Tennessee in 2010. My husband found a job there and worked for three years before he retired. We’ve downsized. The people in the Bible Belt are treasures — as I expect the people in Texas are.
If you can swing it, and can work out the logistics, it might be worth it to leave California behind.
