From Friday restaurants in France will be breaking the law if they offer unlimited fizzy drinks to customers, as the government takes another step to fight the problem of obesity.
The new law was published in the government’s Journal Officiel website on Thursday and will come into effect on Friday.
It specifically states that it’s illegal to sell soft drinks at a fixed price for an unlimited amount of drink, and illegal to offer unlimited amounts for free.
The ban applies to all soft drinks or soda “fountains” in places open to the public, including fast food-chains and restaurants.
It also bans refills on any flavored or carbonated drinks, concentrates like fruit syrups, sports drinks, energy drinks, or essentially anything that comes with added sugar. …

You even notice it’s only the fat nations that try to limit soft drinks, or ban cartoon characters on cereal boxes, or whatever? Countries with low obesity rates don’t seem to actually do this crap; these “solutions” are only dreamed up by politicians in overweight areas.
Never really noticed fat people in France...

...? There’s a place in France outside of Disneyland Paris that offers free refills on drinks? Had no clue, nor have ever found such a creature.
Wonder if this does include the ‘resort cups’ that Disney sells...

Sugar is mentioned a couple of times. “Sugar or sweeteners” are mentioned once.
It is certainly never hinted that the ban does NOT apply to sugarless drinks.
The University of Washington did an obesity study in King County (Seattle) a few years ago.
They divided the county into neighborhoods based on median income.
The three poorest neighborhoods had three to five times more obese residents than the three wealthiest neighborhoods.
Naturally, UW blamed white people for the disparity.
Apparently, the wealthy white neighborhoods have more stores that sell healthy food than the non-white poor neighborhoods.
Another example of the state saving people from a fate not tolerated by vegan fusspots.
I find it rather ironic that the same people usually hate to see fat people and love to see women in the uniform of submission.

I call them “insufferable busybodies.” If they weren’t fat-shaming the lower orders, they’d have to find some other way to express their superiority.
Right. And if I recall, we have had Mayors taxing soda, or trying to ban it when it’s over sixteen ounces. What was your point?
And yet, the very title of this thread says France wishes to “battle bulging obesity levels”.
I’ve never found a fast food joint in Europe that offered free refills. The story would have been more useful with a list.

My point is that you don’t see many fat people in Paris.
Been there lots of times and just never noticed.
Now, you could make a case for limiting sugary sodas in New Jersey, particularly Mays Landing....
Do they limit wine intake?
