What on earth makes people believe that removing the state line barriers will accomplish anything to lower cost? Insurance is expensive because of astronomical medical costs, period.

State lines = fiefdoms and potential monopolies.

Car insurance doesn’t have that problem.

“Insurance is expensive because of astronomical medical costs, period.”

You can include the insane malpractice insurance premiums for doctors fueled by the even more insane activist lawyers and judges.

True healhcare reform must include tort reform.

You have that backwards. Medical costs are astronomically expensive because of insurance. (Also government and University created restrictions on the supply of Doctors)

The insurance companies lobby the commissioners to mandate coverage for things that a lot of people will never need and it makes it unaffordable. I would like to have a policy that doesn’t force me to pay for birth control, abortions, HIV, drug rehab, sex changes, maternity, pediatrics, etc., and maybe I could afford it. Also, I can pay for a routine checkup for myself rather than having a “free” one in my policy that is basically forcing me to pay for other people’s checkups.

It might have when you could get inexpensive coverage in PA and not in NJ. ObamaCare has wrecked that paradigm. Now, coverage in PA is nearly as expensive as NJ because it became basically illegal to offer the inexpensive plans.
