Good question. Sometimes these big city coastal liberals talk of how they have great Thai restaurants, world class museums, farm to table restaurants, allegedly authentic Chinese restaurants, the performing arts, live theater, famous universities, coffee places which are superior to Starbucks for unknown reasons, progressive policies on zoning or public transportation, as reasons why their places are so superior to middle America.

I’m sure there are other reasons which they can conjure up too.

You know, I lived in San Francisco and other parts of the Bay Area for 35 years, and there isn't one of those areas you listed where my current location (AZ) doesn't win by a mile.

OK, maybe the Richmond/Sunset areas of SF have more authentic Chinese restaurants... :)

The main reason I see for this is that excessive taxation and regulation in California drives out virtually everything interesting, leaving only the mega-corporate and homogenized offerings behind. The exact opposite of what liberals claim is so great about the area.

The funny thing is that we have a great Thai restaurant run by Thai immigrants here, probably go to those “world class museums” more often then they do , eat “farm to table” every day, can afford to attend performing arts, the famous universities have been taken over by pod people...

Sorry, don't see where the benefits out way the disadvantages of never knowing your neighbors, never attending a performance where you actually know everybody, never see the stars at night or walk in grass and wear something other then black.
