My mother had a 72 Chevy Nova with a professional racing engine in it (by mistake). She made “The little old lady from Pasadena” seem like she was on a kiddie car.
A new bright star in 5 years? Does Taylor Swift have a younger, talented sister? That I would like to see.
Christmas star...been there, done that. Wonder if this signals Christ’s second return.
Ya’ rarely ever see any Nova’s anymore. They used to be everywhere. We had a red Nova wagon.
WaPo? I don’t believe it.
Will the new star be visible from NA during daylight hours? I find night-time viewing inconvenient. ;)
The binary star KIC 9832227 is about 1800 light years away.
Scientific literature cites 50 to 100 light years as the closest safe distance between Earth and a supernova.
Yup. Cygnus is also called “The Northern Cross’’. The large bright star at it’s tip is called Deneb. It’s one of the most massive stars in the universe.
5 years? Seems like an awfully precise prediction in terms of ‘galactic time’. After reading it looks like they are basing it on orbital calculations, so maybe they have a high degree of confidence? Still, the effects of two stars merging would seem a little bit difficult to predict. But then it Wapo, so they probably are extrapolating from the most hysterical prediction of a range of possibilities.
Some who did not fight
Brought tales of old to light
My Rocinante sailed by night
On her final flight
To the heart of Cygnus fearsome force
We set our course.
Spiraled through that timeless space
To this immortal place
freeerptoo: Get back to me in 5 years and we shall see.
Otherwise, it could be one helluva stellar show. Dibs on the popcorn!
I woke up this morning, didn't have them Statesboro Blues, but the stream had been on Amazon Prime because I'd started out watching a movie, and when finished (I was in dreamland) it segued into this documentary. No spoilers here. Molnar spent years at U of Iowa, missed tenure. At that time the U of Iowa had the late Louis A. Frank but I don't know if he's mentioned in it, I didn't notice that.
This is a teaser for a feature length documentary currently in production. It will likely be released around 2023.LUMINOUS Trailer | 1:43 | Sam Smartt | 71 subscribers | 99,335 views | March 14, 2016
This topic was posted , thanks again BenLurkin, small update in the previous post, ping because I missed this one seven years ago.
Astrologers everywhere are in a panic as their star-charts just became obsolete
So in 2017 scientists predicted a super nova in 5 years, and in 2022 another scientist suggested it would happen soon. so here we are nearing the Endo for 2024 (7 years), and still no action? Are these darn stars waiting for the November election results? Or is something wrong with these scientists? Did these stars kiss and make up or declare a truce?
Did you watch the video?
I briefly owned a blue Nova as a late teen. It fizzled out and Didn't Go.
Is that really from 2017??
I won’t ask!! :)
My novas were great to beat to heck, as they were already beat to heck! :)
I used a K car one whole summer to get to the shore. Died like right after shore season.
Paid 200 bucks for it.
Parked it and walked away with the plates.
Can’t do that anymore!
