1. A person with an optimistic and confident outlook.
2. A person who habitually agrees with or is submissive to others.

The recent death of the members of the Alexandrov Ensemble reminds me of a story.

For years, the USSR did not have an official national anthem. It is rumored that Stalin, surrounded by yeasayers, would exile or execute any composer who came up with a tune he didn’t like. So the old commie song “The International” served for years as the national anthem.

Towards the end of WW2, Alexander Alexadrov wrote a new melody which became the Soviet anthem. Since the dissolving of the USSR, the words have been changed, but Alexandrov’s melody remains.

His name was given to the “Red Army Chorus and Band” which were among the casualties of 2016.
