Near the end of the 1st movement of Beethoven 7th symphony (approximately 11:10-11:38 on this recording) the bass viol section does something that seems a little different than what the rest of the orchestra is doing. I read on some liner notes that Karl Maria von Weber attended a performance of the 7th and when he heard that part he decided Beethoven must be insane.
