Obama, McCain, Lindsee, Wash Post and NY Times all suggest we need to fear and hate - and maybe fight - Putin's Russia
I still haven't seen a good, calmly argued explanation why
If Russia conquered us, would they lower our taxes to Russia's 10 percent flat rate? Would they ensure that orphans get a mom and a dad when they're adopted? Would they end discriminatory laws against traditional judeo-Christian beliefs and practices? Would they stop bureaucrats from persecuting Christian bakers?
The Left might hate Russia for its low taxes and Christian culture, but why must I?
Putin also outlawed sharia law. He said if people want to live under sharia, there are plenty of countries which have it. Go there.
Thank you! Unfortunately, some posters here did a knee-jerk reaction and missed the point of this thread entirely. How someone could have read the original post and interpreted it to be asking why we shouldn't become like Russia is beyond me.
My bad.
Wow, that escalated quickly. Where did I say I hated the Russian people? I have Russian friends. No reason to call me a bigot. That’s a tactic of the Left.
You compared me to Hitler? LMAO. If I were to propose invading a country with an economy the size of Mexico's I'd propose invading Mexico. At least they have good beaches, it's not dark half the year and some of us like the food.
I have a feeling you are arguing against a paid Russian propagandist. The good thing is you’re winning. Over and over.
Great thread! So far minimal name calling and only a few irrational arguments. Sorta like the FR of old. Thanks everyone!
“I think Russia is a country on the right track.”
Their GDP is less than that of the State of California.
Their Life Expectancy is less than that of Sub-Saharan African countries.
That does not appear to be on the right track.
Didn’t compare you to Hitler, pal. Just pointed how hubris can destroy even mighty armies - and Neo-Cons.
Yup. Best argument I’ve seen.
My Russian wife makes a mean okroshka.
Focus people, the question is why should we fear and/or hate them?
“How someone could read the original post and interpreted it to be asking why we shouldn’t become like Russia is beyond me. “
It’s an attempt to avoid answering my point by distorting it and answering a straw-man argument instead.
Also, your facts about the US are wrong. GDP per capita was $48,061 in 2007. It was $56,115 in 2015. I have no idea what you mean by local and regional strongmen, but I'd like you to to identify the American equivalent of Chechen warlord and Putin-ally Ramzan Kadyrov.
The US population isn't shrinking and the rule of law is hardly non existent. If I've forgotten to refute anything else, my apologies but those claims were probably wrong too.
Never been there.
Did have the urge to visit after the USSR fell apart but forced retirement nixed my plans and desires.
I was a long haul trucker for many years.
Worked with a guy that called himself the Mad Hungarian.
He clued me in to what life was like under the Soviet Union.
We both agreed that the US was headed into a socialist cesspool because of the slow and steady death of our liberties.
Last time I talked to him was right after Obama was elected.
He saw right through the shyster Hussein because he had dealt with that type most of his life.
If what you describe of Russia is true, I have no reason to doubt you, then the leftists here will try to impose the same on us.
It’s a pity the Russian people have never experienced real freedom.
Straight from the Czars to Lenin to Stalin. From bad to worse to worst.
Well said. I’ve been wondering the same.
It's also an attempt to hijack the thread, which I for one find exasperating.
Their GDP is less than that of the State of California.”
How much of that is because of Obama’s economic warfare/sanctions against Russia? A lot, I would wager
>See, this is nuts. Hillary is awful and I’m thrilled she lost, but that doesn’t mean Putin or Maduro or Kim Jong Un are better than her or equivalent. This is bizarro-land moral equivalency. Putin employs warlords like Ramzan Kadyrov who literally murder hundreds if not thousands of his citizens.
How many people are dead in Libya, Egypt, and Syria because of her enabling and helping terrorist thugs? It’s well north of 100k by now.
>You can’t physically move without an internal passport.
Normal for Russia for the last 1000 years or so.
>The economy is in free fall.
Nope, it’s in recovery. Stop spouting MSN BS.
>If you want to run a company and you don’t give someone connected to Putin an ownership stake, you get thrown in jail or killed.
Hate to break this to you sweetheart, but the US government does the same damn thing, generally in a less violent manner. We just have the curtsy to call it “political donations”. Microsoft learned this the hard ways in the 00s when the US government sued and sued them until they started dishing out huge donations to both parties. Get big enough in the US and it’s either pay up or have your life destroyed by the feds until you pay up.
>This is not a normal country nor is it remotely equivalent to the United States. It’s political insanity to say that our enemy’s enemy is our friend.
Nations don’t have friends, they have interests. And right now Russia and our best interests align in rolling back the globalists progressives who are strangling western civilization and kicking the Islamists back to the stone age. Maybe tomorrow they won’t align, but until then I say we work together.
>Wow, that escalated quickly. Where did I say I hated the Russian people? I have Russian friends. No reason to call me a bigot. Thats a tactic of the Left.
You implied that Reagan hated Russia. That’s bigotry and a lie.
