Obama, McCain, Lindsee, Wash Post and NY Times all suggest we need to fear and hate - and maybe fight - Putin's Russia
I still haven't seen a good, calmly argued explanation why
If Russia conquered us, would they lower our taxes to Russia's 10 percent flat rate? Would they ensure that orphans get a mom and a dad when they're adopted? Would they end discriminatory laws against traditional judeo-Christian beliefs and practices? Would they stop bureaucrats from persecuting Christian bakers?
The Left might hate Russia for its low taxes and Christian culture, but why must I?
All of that plus lady shot-putters and giant combine machines that work every fifth year. Oh, and dogs in space.
The point of this post wasn’t to say we should become like Russia, it was why do we need to hate fear and fight them
You say you want reform and more prosperity in us. As trump understands, that won’t come if we get bogged down in more wars, esp with russia
Maybe I’m missing something. The poster literally used the phrase, “if Russia conquered us...”. Sorry guys, I do fear conquest by a dictatorship.
Also, your facts about the US are wrong. GDP per capita was $48,061 in 2007. It was $56,115 in 2015. I have no idea what you mean by local and regional strongmen, but I'd like you to to identify the American equivalent of Chechen warlord and Putin-ally Ramzan Kadyrov.
The US population isn't shrinking and the rule of law is hardly non existent. If I've forgotten to refute anything else, my apologies but those claims were probably wrong too.
Most of what you listed is the same here in the “Land Of The Free.”
You, sir, nailed it. Bravo!
I was being sarcastic about the “conquer”. My point is that I wish we had Russia’s income tax rates and tolerance for traditional Christian values instead of persecuting Christian bakers and the like
I think Russia is a country on the right track.
I completely agree, and I don’t fear Russia. You use the phrase, “if Russia conquered us...” and then went on to suggest the things would be fine because our tax rate would be lower. Sorry, I disagree. As others have said, Cuba has a lower tax rate than we do. I don’t want to be them.
Look, in general we’re on the same side. Really. I just think it’s really important that you not romanticize Russia. Obama is an idiot. And I agree that we don’t need to antagonize Russia and could have a much better relationship with them as Trump has suggested. I’m fine with all of that. But I’d rather be an American with all of our problems than a Russian. There are still plenty of Marxists in Russia.
Quote:
“They’re a piddly little country desperate to be relevant.”
Said Napoleon and Hitler just before sending their armies into Russia........
Did he?
"Putin is not going to rush through the Fulda Gap and conquer Europe."
The bad old days of the Soviet Union are over FRiend. Maybe, without the trade restrictions, Russia’s economy would improve... Maybe with real diplomacy, FReedom in Russia would improve? The Russian people are not devils and war benefits none of us.
See your point, but I do not fear Russia and neither does the poster so the idea that Russia could conquer us is absurd and the poster knows it so it appears to be hyperbolic and funny. I would guess the poster is also a Trumpnut because he has Trump’s rhetorical style, and that is not a bad thing!
EU countries are sanctioning Russia because we’ve pressured them to do so. I’ve seen neocon pundits worry that trump will take the pressure off.
See, this is nuts. Hillary is awful and I'm thrilled she lost, but that doesn't mean Putin or Maduro or Kim Jong Un are better than her or equivalent. This is bizarro-land moral equivalency. Putin employs warlords like Ramzan Kadyrov who literally murder hundreds if not thousands of his citizens. You can't physically move without an internal passport. The economy is in free fall. If you want to run a company and you don't give someone connected to Putin an ownership stake, you get thrown in jail or killed. This is not a normal country nor is it remotely equivalent to the United States. It's political insanity to say that our enemy's enemy is our friend.
>They did NOT avoid it. They overcame it (sort of) after decades of hell. BIG DIFFERENCE!!! Please dont romanticize Russia folks. That sound you hear is Reagan spinning in his grave!
Reagan always embraced the Russia people and hated Communism. Get your facts straight. Or are you just a Russian hating bigot?
Putin is not going to nuke Washington DC.....
“1. They are an overtly Christian country.”
Perhaps it’s overt, but it’s not open.
Less than 2% of the population is Russia is Protestant.
Well put.
