Poitín now legal to drink in Ireland as first license given [Poteen, moonshine]

After generations of his family spent their lives as outlaws for making the infamous Irish poitín, Pádraic Ó Griallais has finally been able to carry out the family business in the open just under a decade after the spirit was outlawed.

Taking a career break from his job as a high school teacher to establish a new business based on his old family recipe, Ó Griallais is free to produce and sell the highly alcoholic spirit as he pleases without the interference of the Gardaí [Irish police], who hounded the previous poitín distillers in his family with raids to put a stop to the production of the beverage that was outlawed from 1661 to 1997 due to excise regulations.

The production of the spirit was regulated by the Irish Department of Agriculture in 1997 but only under their specific regulations. Luckily the regulations still allow Ó Griallais to use the botanical bogbean that grows around his family’s homeland around Indreabhán, County Galway, that makes their specific recipe so special. …

The goal is not avoiding exercise, but avoiding missteps.

Exactly what she needs after a weekend in the wilds — to escape physical activity. Ha-ha.

The clothes are all dry, and for the most part, put away, since I hang them on hangers to dry. The only things on the drying racks were socks, undies and sleep shirts. The latter dry better when there are no folds to hold in the moisture.

I’ve had my breathing treatment, and I’m just waiting for 0530 so I can go open up, then head for Wally’s to get the rest of the stuff on my list. I’ll have to try and save enough back for my pain prescription, which I’ll have to go pick up tomorrow or Thursday.

We’re going to have another sunny day today, but tomorrow will be cloudy, and the next four days it’s going to clabber up and rain. The weather beeber said “100% chance.” Ungh.

Yes. We don’t want to tweak the previously tweaked ankle. That would hurt exponentially, I believe.

I see Eugene Cernan passed away. He was 82. How did all those bright young astronauts get old?

She can concentrate on her education for a few days.

Morning everyone.

I had MLK day off.

I spent it celebrating the last Monday in office of our first black President.

Del Rio?

You spent time on beautiful Lake Amistad?

I was stationed at Laughlin for my brief stint in flight school in 1982.

"How did all those bright young astronauts get old?"

I think they got tired of waiting for Willy Ley's dreams of space exploration to go any further.

I can understand that.

I went to the gym. Then I took a nap. Then I went to Walmart.

That sounds like she needs the time to concentrate on her education for a few days! I hope it’s a productive time.

Welp. I did it again. Got side-tracked when I started this post and went to Wally’s. Now here I am. Ha-ha.

I sneezed four times just before I left, and that’s not a good thing. Less than two or more than two doesn’t bode well for my body. So I may be catching what is going around. I may have to start taking Emergen-C again. Starting today. I hope I have enough to get me through this.

Obviously it was the space travel.

Yes, I did spend time at Lake Amistad. I liked Del Rio, but the climate was just a little too much for me. I had to come back to the desert. I was only in Del Rio for three years, but I learned that TexMex was as much a language as a food. That part was a lot of fun!

Yes, I think the space program ended way too soon. Maybe the astronauts would have lived longer if they’d had a reason to. Like more space exploration.

Mrs. AreGee got tired of having to tell people she only spoke English. But she liked shopping in Ciudad Acuña.

I’m waiting for the sun to come up over the yardarm. Then it can shine in my window.

My goodness, but the skies have been quite busy with helicopters this morning. One flew over when I was on my way to the clubhouse, and one flew over right after I got back from Wally’s, and one went over just now. All in the same direction, so I’m wondering what’s going on.

Ohwell. I will probably never know.

In a bit, I’ll go have another breathing treatment and from then, the day is mine. Oh. Wait. I have to fold and put away the clothes that weren’t on hangers. THEN the day is mine! LOL!

I never got there, but I wanted to. I didn’t have a vehicle at the time, or I would have, so going anywhere was a real hassle. My favorite place to shop was the HEB meat counter! YUM!

I’m back from Weight Watchers. Elen tried to persuade me that being at school all day would be bad for her ankle, therefore I should drive her over after lunch for her first class and pick her up afterward. “You can just sit there,” I said.

LOL! That sounds like the argument from my daughter (no doubt in a very defensive tone) about her piercings. Not logical in the least!

But it should probably get a B+ for creativity. ;o]
