Recently, Russian president Vladimir Putin signed a new anti-terrorism law, which, among other things, restricts missionary activities in Russia significantly. As was the case in the Soviet Union, believers will be able to evangelize only on property that belongs to their religious organizations and affiliated institutions. Violators may be subjected to steep fines. In addition, the law would tighten government control over Russian Internet providers.
While it would be easy to blame these events on the history of communism in Russia, the relationship between church and the state has a longer and more influential history in Russia.

Ironically, Gorbachev himself has repeatedly warned the West that they risk igniting a nuclear war with their duplicity on Ukraine and specifically calls out the United States for its reversion to narrow minded cold war propaganda in place of diplomacy.
Hopefully Trump and Tillerson will change all that with a practical reset of US/RF relations.

Putin has a huge problem and it is the Muslims within his own country as well as his borders. The Russians have fought the Muzzies for centuries, something we are about to find what that is like here. The world is smaller now and the satanic cult of Islam can spread far and wide.
That is his problem and he knows it. It is now the rest of the worlds problem also.

I suspect he is using his Orthodox Christain views to form a state religion.

Seeing Russia as a Christian nation would definitely make Russia anathema liberals. It would show that there is a desperate need for a
“Russian Spring.” Perhaps ibn Brennan can engineer that in the time remaining to him.

Gorbachev didn’t threaten nuclear war or invade multiple countries while murdering thousands.
Read some history lodi. When Gorbachev was ruler, Soviet Russia ruled over all of Eastern Europe and all of Ukraine, including Crimea. Of all that vast area, Putin’s Russia controls only Crimea. Reagan had no problem making deals with Gorbachev even though Gorbachev led a communist, officially atheist imperial power. Putin’s Russia is officially Christian — and is anti-communist, with a 10 percent flat tax. Is that why you hate Putin?
