Christians call it “Judgment Day” or “The Day of Fulfillment”, when our Lord keeps his last promise to us, the promise of eternal life in heaven with him.
Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus.
Actually, as the solar system ages and planets clear out their orbits, there are fewer and fewer large objects left to cause extinction level events. It is not surprising that the time between very large meteor strikes is gradually increasing.
The purported “scientist” is probably reacting to Trump’s election. He knows his useless “research” is soon on the cutting block.
Fact is at virtually anytime we could get impacted by a “Near Earth Object’’(NEO). There’s loads of stuff, big, medium , and large sized objects floating all around us. Stuff hit’s the Earth atmosphere all the time. Not much we can do about really. It’s a cosmic crapshoot.
Sorry, my library books are due. The Earth is not due for a catastrophe. This is like saying Im due to win the lottery .
ROFL!!!
lol. They needed something new after Trump’s election killed the golden climate goose.
Great post. It’s good for casino degenerates like me who say “I’M DUE FOR A HIT!!”
nope.
Figures, we finally get the presidency and house and KABOOM, it is all over.
There is a possible ELE between now an 2060 when the Earth will pass through the center of the torus-shaped debris field that makes up the Taurids. Last time begun the Younger Dryas - the coldest time, and then 1000 years before that when the Ice Age glaciers began to melt in earnest. Both times have left traces in the geological record.
Hopefully the center is swept clean, but all the old records point to a date no later than 2060.
There are other sources of ELE events out there. How many of you have heard about this event that occured in '04? It ripped away part of the earth's atmosphere and altered our magnetosphere to this day.
The source for the event above was 55,000 light years away. We've got something similar only 8,000 light years away: NASA Missions Monitor a Waking Black Hole
The resulting radiation/energy from these events comes in waves, depending upon the type of particles or waves, and arrive at different time periods. The gamma waves from the '04 event may only be a prelude to other cosmic radiation that will follows. Cosmic radiation has been increasing. We're not sure if it's because the sun has gotten quieter, or because the solar system itself is seeing an increase.
There is much we don't know. It's theorized something similar wiped out many large mammals and much of humanity about 12,000 years ago...
Thanks for posting BenLurkin!
I seem to remember something about a mountain falling into the ocean killing a third of life on the planet, and but it works out OK in the end.
The stupid! It burns!
Comets and asteroids are random events. A comet could strike one day, and the chance of a comet strike the next day is exactly the same as if there has not been one for a hundred million years.
There is no such thing as “they tend to occur every x-million years”. There is no such thing as due or overdue. The fact that there has not been one for a long time is irrelevant, or relevant only as an indicator that such things are extremely rare.
Either this “scientist” knows this, and is being intentionally manipulative, or he does not know this, which would make him completely ignorant. Either way, there is nothing of value in his statements.
Gambler’s fallacy.
Now that their global warming/muslim outreach funding is about to dry up NASA is looking for Billions to fund nuclear tipped asteroid deterrent missiles to fill the gap.
Fire the biggest grant cannon available.
That’s always been the case ... because we don’t know everything and we don’t fully understand natural occurances on earth or from outer space.
We are probably better off not knowing all the potential “end of the world” scenarios out there.
