Dolly Parton has announced plans to donate $1,000 per month to every family who lost their home in the wildfires sweeping through the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. The country music icon is helping the homeless families in need with the monthly donation for six months, until they get back on their feet.

Parton will make the donations through her Dollywood Foundation, reports the Knoxville News Sentinel, noting that the foundation plans to make more information available on Friday. According to the newspaper, more than 150 homes and businesses in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, have been destroyed.

Fraud-magnet.

There is a very thin line between realism and cynicism! I (like you, evidently) am typically very skeptical BUT..., I'll give Dolly the benefit of the doubt! She truly loves the home of her birth and has NO REASON not to lead an effort to assist them!

Trump MIGHT do that, but can you imagine the photo-op and how the MSM, Huffington Post, would deal with it? They would be bound to achieve new heights of snarkiness.

It is. I find it quite charming. The photographer’s use of an extremely shallow depth of focus draws the viewer’s eyes straight to her. The pose, in turn directs attention to her face, which is beautiful and expressive.

I adore her. I sat next to her on a plane from LAX to DFW once and she wanted to talk about me, not herself, although I wanted to talk about her! She was humble and really sweet. That evening, somehow we ended up at the same restaurant and she called out across the room to me, it was quite charming.

Good for her.

No “apparently”! Dolly is very generous. In the counties in which she has a theater (in SC it’s Horry County) she gives every child who signs up a free book each year for their birth and for birthdays 1 year old to 5 years old. She has a very giving heart.

New LOWS rather, but yeah. I know it’s uncharitable of me, but I must admit to a bit of glee when I taste their teary angst.

As a private charity, I think Dolly Parton’s operation will be less prone to fraud than a govt. program. Parton is an astute businesswoman, and I am fully confident that she can screen out the scammers.

I don’t doubt it at all. She doesn’t have enough sense to keep her mouth shut about her opinion that Christians judging homosexuality to be the sin God says it is, is just as sinful as engaging in homosexuality.

For context, understand that she gave this interview while the nation was having heated arguments over whether Christian bakers should be forced to participate in celebrations of homosexuality, and whether we should be forced to treat these pairings as marriages, equal to holy matrimony. While most of her fans were firmly on the side of Christianity, Dolly came out firmly on the opposite side.

There’s an embedded video at the link.

Billboard: Dollywood attracts lots of church groups, but it has also become a draw for the LGBT community. What does that say about you?

Dolly: It’s a place for entertainment, a place for all families, period. It’s for all that. But as far as the Christians, if people want to pass judgment, they’re already sinning. The sin of judging is just as bad as any other sin they might say somebody else is committing. I try to love everybody.

Billboard: You have a large gay following. To what do you attribute that?

Dolly: They know that I completely love and accept them, as I do all people. I’ve struggled enough in my life to be appreciated and understood. I’ve had to go against all kinds of people through the years just to be myself. I think everybody should be allowed to be who they are, and to love who they love. I don’t think we should be judgmental. Lord, I’ve got enough problems of my own to pass judgment on somebody else.
