Why are we naming ships after people that are still alive?! I thought they only occurred after they died. Or did I miss her death?
This is his way of pissing us off, nothing more.
wishful thinking ??
Her brain death occurred long before she was shot.
That was my question. Navy never has named a ship after some still living. If they were going to flush that tradition, for some not in the navy, it should have been for Bob Hope. At least he gave so much to the military for years!
Naming ships after the living has been going on for a while, the first I remember is USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70), who was also a congress critter. I still remember seeing the ship for the first time in the early '80s and all of us wondering "who the hell is Carl Vinson?"
And there is a USNS BOB HOPE (T-AKR-300), and he was still alive at the christening.
