Donald Trump and his wife Melania are spending the Thanksgiving holiday at the business mogul's Mar-a-Lago resort. Trump bought the estate for $10million in 1985 for his then wife Ivana. The resort was developed in the 1920s for heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. After he acquired the resort, Trump redeveloped the main house and created his own private quarters - decked out in gold.

On the other hand, isn’t the style of the resort dictated by its original design? He loves rescuing old buildings and restoring them to their old splendor. He also has a number of restoration projects that are very modernistic.
Whether or not you like his taste in decorating, you must admit the man has a flair about him. And, unlike King Louis, Trump paid for everything with his own money. I admire the man.
Wow! What a place!
I watched a little of the Today show this morning. An expert pundit was worrying about Trump’s attention span. Trump’s short attention span evidently, for him, explains how to amass billions of dollars worth of assets.
These Media puppets know nothing of which they speak. It is all STILL liberal dogma.
A long time ago, a friend of mine was describing his tour of the "Hearst Castle". He lamented how much money was "wasted" in building the place.
I pointed out that Hearst employed a large number of workers and artists to build it, and those people had families.
He didn't have a response to that.
They never think beyond their close-minded politics, frankly.
In the 1990s, Trump was running into a problem getting his golf course approved by the local town council in Palm Beach, which was imposing restrictions on his bid.
So Trump shot back with maximum effect. As reported by the Washington Posts Mary Jordan and Rosalind Helderman on Nov. 14, 2015: Trump undercut his adversaries with a searing attack, claiming that local officials seemed to accept the established private clubs in town that had excluded Jews and blacks while imposing tough rules on his inclusive one.
The Washington Post report continues, Trumps lawyer sent every member of the town council copies of two classic movies about discrimination: A Gentlemans Agreement, about a journalist who pretends to be Jewish to expose anti-Semitism, and Guess Whos Coming to Dinner about a white couples reaction to their daughter bringing home a black fiancé.
Sometimes, in judging the character of an individual, it pays to see what people actually do when nobodys really paying attention. When it came to segregation in the South at private, all-white country clubs, it might have been in Trumps business interests to simply look the other way. Instead, Trump did the right thing and insisted on desegregation at his golf resort.
And he won.
Soon thereafter, the local restrictions were lifted and, today, the golf course is open and remains inclusive.
It remains a point of pride for Trump, who boasted about the golf resort in a 2015 interview, Whether they love me or not, everyone agrees the greatest and most important place in Palm Beach is Mar-a-Lago. I took this ultimate place and made it incredible and opened it, essentially, to the people of Palm Beach. The fact that I owned it made it a lot easier to get along with the Palm Beach establishment.
Not my decorating style either, but I sure would enjoy staying there once!
It’s his place so the only cost to the taxpayer is the SS. Guessing conversation among the body guards is generally positive about the assignment.
Not my style either. BUT he and his money have preserved and kept up a national treasure. The place was essentially falling in when he bought it. Now it’s a showpiece. Good for him.
HOORAY Mr. Donald J. Trump. Thank you, sir.
MAGA BUMP
I love the fireplace in the bathroom thing. I would sure love to languish in the tub.
BTW, this is a lovely article, but other articles show the wing that he and Melania live in.
Another hypocritical journalist, from across the pond.
“Living around all that would drive me buggy.”
Ditto. I’d have the heebie-jeebies every minute surrounded by all that glitz — sensory overload. I’ve stayed at the Boca Raton Golf Club/Resort and I think it was built around the same time. It was much more understated and tasteful (IMHO).
Wouldn’t it be funny if Melania woke up one day and said, “I think I’d like to go primitive country now”?
I’d go psychotic after half an hour.
But then, I’m not Trump. Trump is Trump and that’s fine with me.
Not interested in living in glitz.
Feels like show-off rather than comfort.
I don’t think I’d be comfortable there either, but I’m mostly simple. But I can appreciate craftsmanship and the work that went into creating this “opulence.”
I read that he built a 20 ft mound and installed a 60 ft flag pole.
Trump has always loved yellow gold, going back to when I first became familiar with him as a public personality in the 1980s.
I’ve always found yellow gold to be ostentatious. I find it particularly off putting on men’s watches, as I find diamonds on men’s watches. On women’s watches and jewelry it works. On men, not so much.
Just a matter of personal taste.
