58-0. 78-0. 49-0. 39-0.

FCS schools against their bigger FBS brothers?

Not quite. These are the poundings Rutgers has taken in Big Ten play this season against Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and now Penn State, respectively.

The Scarlet Knights are now 0-8 in Big Ten play after the Penn State Nittany Lions came into Piscataway and seemingly scared all the Rutgers fans out of the misnamed High Point Solutions Stadium on Saturday.

That is what you get when the Big 10 = 14 added Rutgers because the Big 10 network could earn $1 a month on cable fees from the 8 MM households living in the NYC Metro area. Growing up in NYC metro nobody cared or cares about Rutgers football. I suppose a couple of million a month is worth it in exchange for a meaningless Big 10 = 14 conference game a week.

Didn’t Rutgers have a coach named Frank Burns at one time, back in the 1970’s or so?

and Maryland is no better at football. When you put them with Indiana, Purdue, and IL it is really sad. With Rutgers and Maryland joining the conference, what the Big 10 has done is to add more automatic wins for the better quarter/third of the conference teams.

Yeah. I don’t remember him but I remember one year during his tenure Rutgers made it to the Garden State Bowl. One of his teams might have actually beat Florida at Gainesville.

As an Indiana fan, I’ve learned to love having Maryland and Rutgers in the league. After we beat Purdue next week, we’ll be going to back to back bowl games for the first time in 35 (?) years.

Or I guess 25 yrs. 35 sounded better.

As a Rutgers alum I’ve always had a special affinity to the program however we’ve hit hard times once again. It was fun as a season ticket holder during the heyday of the Greg Schiano years back in the Big East when we actually had some success and bowl victories. At that point the university started to get greedy and began raising the price of everything from parking to tickets while the quality of the product went into a steady decline upon Schiano’s departure. After joining the Big 10 they went to “dynamic” pricing, i.e we charge what we feel like, and that was the end for me. As a Cubs fan I now know that all good things are possible in due time. Unfortunately I don’t have another 108 years to wait around for it!

Well at least the Huskers blasted off 3 points against Ohio State as the Buckeyes narrowly escaped shutting us out 62-3. That’s the same Buckeyes that barely squeaked past 3-8 Michigan State, and got beat by Penn State!

I so would enjoy a powerful Husker team again...
