“they were greeted by a peaceful people prone to building pyramids instead of stockpiles of weapons”

Go look up “Aztec” and then get back to me.

The Spaniards settled in Cholula and kept up with the local affinity for religious monuments...

Oh please. Slapping churches on top of native religious sites, like this pyramid, was an old cultural domination tactic before the Spaniards left Europe.

The Spanish arriving in Aztec areas was analogous to the Allied armies liberating death camps in Nazi Germany. Thank God that barbaric culture was eradicated

Aztecs? Peaceful? They were bloodthirsty animals that sacrificed their children to their gods!

Oh, wait. That’s Pro-Abort Democrats. My bad. *SNORT*

The culture the Spaniards found in Mexico makes the NAZIs look human. The NAZIs did not eat their enemies.

The NAZIs did not force their enemies to watch their children being sacrificed to evil gods, as their beating hearts were ripped from their body, and then be forced to eat some of their children’s flesh.

The Conquest of Mexico, by Bernal Diaz, is a first hand account of one of Cortez’ foot soldiers.

It should be required reading in every high school.

It is an easy read. Perhaps the best history book I have ever read.

My ancestry is mestizo-Spanish and Native American-and the Aztecs and all those other peaceful tribes had fought, slaughtered and conquered each other for centuries-and that is what they were doing when the Spaniards who fought each other in Spain got there to conquer-and mix with them-no doubt why we have such terrible tempers-two cruel, volatile and warlike groups hooked up and had kids...

I’ve been to a lot of archaeological sites in Mexico-but never been to that pyramid-very interesting...

“they were greeted by a peaceful people”

Bwahahaha! Utter nonsense.

They were greeted by people who engaged in constant tribal warfare, wholesale slavery, “sports” in which the loser was executed, and human sacrifice in which the heart was ripped out of a living victim!

They tried to wipe them out and burn all their writings because they were so revolted by the savagery they witnessed.

How do you burn down a mud brick pyramid?

A peaceful people who idled away their carefree days ripping the beating hearts out of the chests of their victims and who played soccer with their heads.

Yep. A kumbaya crowd before kumbaya was kool.
