Another distinction people are not considering is that every other Republican candidate would have caved to the GOPe. Remember Cruz was getting funded by Golden Sacks and other Establishment donors.

Trump was the only one who was all-in against the Establishment.

So even if you believe Cruz would have won against Hillary, with Cruz the best we could have got would be a half-GOPe/half-conservative candidate.

Voters only turned out in YUGE number because Trump was radically different than every politician out there. That, my FRiends, was the margin of victory!
