Since the campaigns are over and electioneering can cease, let's take a realistic look as the lay of the land and understand what is likely to occur under Trump's administration and what is not likely.
Indeed, Obamacare repeal legislation has been floated numerous times by the Republican House over the past several years, only to find an unwilling Senate or Executive roadblock to kill all possibility. I contend that we are in a similar situation now.
A perilously bare "R" majority in the senate will be the death knell for any repeal for at least the next two years. Democrats will form a monolithic bloc of opposition to any repeal, and the remaining RINO's will insist on meaningless tweaking of the current law before they'll sign their names to any legislation, but won't go for an outright repeal. So, the senate remains a roadblock.
If I'm missing anything in this analysis, let me know. I'm just a realist who doesn't see a way forward, especially with the raw hatred of the left aimed straight at America.
Look at greatagain.gov, Trump’s transition website.
It appears he actually intends to do everything he promised! No doubt a first in Presidential history.
And the reason the Left is in full-bore meltdown.
Yep. I trust Trump to do what he promised or at least try like heck.
There are so many parts to this...and an inevitable part of it, because of how evil and statist it is, is that it makes the cost of implementing and meeting all of the requirements to conform to it so high, that the concept of a small community hospital is becoming extinct.
Across the health care landscape, small hospitals are facing the choice of either going belly up, or being absorbed into a larger hospital network. If they exist in such a state they won’t add anything to a larger organization, or are positioned to deal with the same patient population already being administered by some other smaller or larger hospital, then...they don’t have a choice.
In those cases, they go belly-up, the employees all lose their jobs, and the patients who loved getting their care in a smaller, more personal setting, now have to go to larger, more impersonal settings.
I had dinner last night with a group of people, and one of them was a lib who was crushed by Clinton’s defeat. She worked at a smaller hospital for decades and didn’t lose her job when her smaller community hospital got absorbed into a larger network, but she bemoaned the fact that she now worked for a larger organization that was only concerned with profits, and treated her as a faceless number, so she left that organization and found a job at another hospital.
She seemed nice enough, but lacked the intellectual capability to link her choice of candidate and ideology to the situation she found herself in.
It was all I could do to sit there and be polite. Didn’t want to be that turd in the punchbowl for all the others there.
Lots of Democrat senators up for reelection in 2018. Im guessing they might be more cooperative than you think. If not done by 2018 Trump will be primaried by others saying they can Repeal Obamcare even though their allies are probably stopping Trump from repealing it - Sybeck1
Ten of those, I read, are from states Trump won. Including Sen. Manchion (sp) of WVa, a state which went for Trump almost 2:1. This is likely to focus some minds quite powerfully, I would think. And if the War on Coal has done that to Democrats in WVa, what will the disaster which is the Unaffordable-Obama-Dont-Care Act of 2009 do to any Senator who fights Repeal/Replace? Especially when the WH pen and the phone are available to make sure that their states feel the pain good and hard . . .
Manchion will IMHO switch parties in the immediate future. Because he seems to have no prospect of ever being in the majority - or even of surviving in office into February 2019 - as a Democrat.
“There needs to be some transition between Obamacare to something else, so people dont lose their insurance.
There has been no mention of if\what the in-between will be.”
I respectfully disagree. As was mentioned in some earlier posts (not by me), Trump can forbid the IRS from enforcing the penalty, thus removing the mandate. Meanwhile, congress can allow insurance companies to offer other, alternative plans which people are free to buy (even across state lines). People will quickly migrate out of ObamaCare plans into those better suited. Obamacare will not be able to support its own weight and will die. Doesn’t even need to be repealed.
Just offer an alternative and don’t enforce the mandate.
Dems don't care. They have NEVER cared.
2. If the Dems obstruct all Pub attempts to fix it, then it fails and they get the blame for both imposing obamacare (without a single Pub vote) to start with AND the blame for its failure by obstructing its fix.
It's been failing for quite a while, and they have still supported it.
My guess is that they will try to bide their time, hoping to get a majority in either the house or senate in 2018, so that they can push it further into the future, where it will be ensconced even more.
3. I hope Trump capitalizes on ALL of his perceived vested powers, so I agree with you on this one. Let's hope so.
4. Trump is a master negotiator and deal maker; hell look for win-win results.
That is a two-edged sword. Negotiation implies COMPROMISES. How do you compromise with the absolutely horrific, communist monster which is Obamacare? What is given up in the compromise?
You just described 90% of all Dems.
If O-care can be destroyed without legislation, I'm all for it. I did solicit responses explaining how. That is not "obstructing."
I'm just saying that it will likely NOT be done through the legislature in the near future.
Congressional leaders have already made it clear that 0bamacare repeal WILL be part of the first 100 days. Let me remind you AGAIN that NO REPUBLICAN voted for 0bamacare. NOT A SINGLE ONE. And two of the squishiest Senators are now gone.
Contrary to the crap being constantly posted on FR, not all, and in fact, not even all that many Republicans are RINOS. The exit polls pretty clearly show that there was no such thing as a #NeverTrump movement: crossover votes to Hillary were statistically the same in this election as they have been in every previous Presidential election. Trump was exactly what his winning the Party nomination signalled he was: the candidate of the REPUBLICAN Party. If "most" Republicans were "RINOS" he would have to be a "RINO" as well.
He isn't, and WE aren't.
As for being "more conservative than me" you would lose that bet.

President-elect hints at possible compromise after vows to repeal the Affordable Care Act”

It took 3 years to transition INTO Obamacare...and it wasn’t pretty.
Regardless, as many other posters said, there are executive ways to dismantle CommieCare to its bare bones. I'm all for these and hope that Trump capitalizes on these to the fullest extent. But I see NO capitulation by a single Democrat.
As I have said repeatedly on this forum, I despise liberals and liberalism, but...I do recognize that my dislike is focused on the dedicated ideologues which comprise 2/3 of liberals in my estimation. I think about a third of them are just good-hearted useful idiots, and this woman was in that group.
Understood. A lot of them have just been hoodwinked into thinking the liberal ideology represents “compassion” and haven’t thought it through.
Yes, and we already ripped the power away from the establishment. We will do it again as many times as necessary, even if it takes trial and error candidates to replace them.
