They say maybe fans are turning it off because the games are too long, too many commercials, presidential election, etc, but don't even mention the obvious reasons.
Very politically incorrect to overtly state but the decline in ratings clearly has to do with race. The NFL features and publicizes predominantly black players. Often they are seen in less than flattering circumstances. Behavior and antics on the field, often criminal behavior off it, simply turns off many white viewers. One only need look at the real overall NBA ratings. Call it racist, a cultural disconnect or whatever, but it is what it is. Fewer people find it interesting or something they find enjoyable ,entertaining and can identify with.
Football fans need a new league.
The games are just d*mn boring to watch. I’m tired of watching wealthy players jump offside, line up offside, block in the back on darn near every punt or kickoff and the referees who have no consistency on pass interference or holding calls.
Add to that the constant boring ass commercials about cars and beer at every possession change.
The product of the NFL sucks.
Kneel or protest the flag ceremony and you are out of a job. Period.
Players better start sounding like they are grateful to be playing a game in which they can make millions or they are going to see more viewer erosion.
A halftime show featuring a thousand vets spitting in Roger Goodell’s face might convince me to watch. Once.
I have an idea that would make me watch again ...
If a player disrespects the National Anthem, he forfeits his helmet for, that game.
Stop discriminating against white players.
Well the presidential election is over so that part is covered. They originally said that was the problem and the antics weren’t a factor. This weekend everything should be peachy pie. /sarc
Fans are just viewing their options.
I thought the NFL’s ratings were down because of the election? So what’s to fix? The election is over so their ratings should come back. The NFL wasn’t lying when they said their ratings were down because of the election, were they?
I dont care what they do. Im done with them, for at least this year and maybe forever.
Its just entertainment. I can live without it.
This has been a topic for me for several years now. Between the muted atmosphere overall; meaning less excitement and energy than most NCAA games, the commercials (yes, too long and too many of them...they are also of a more somber caliber overall than compared to commercials for NCAA games--Insurance, Consulting Firms, etc).
Caught a few moments of Cowboys game last year at Tgiving...literally it was kickoff/commercials/one play/2 min warning (meaning 3+ mins of commercials)/ one play/timeout (more commercials).
Before that, moving away from "my" team and seeing less coverage; coupled with the rise of Pinktober and increasing social(ist) activism from the league itself added more weight to the load.
Living in the Charlotte area and seeing constant Cam, Cam, Cam coverage; along with his pouting or 2 minute long TD celebrations is a turnoff too.
Hate the hype for superbowls, as well. The butchering of the National Anthem, the worship of pop culture, etc...I went out to dinner with my wife the 2 years prior to the Panthers being in last year and didnt miss it. 99% chance we do the same this year unless the Bucs make it
Yeah, and Kaepernick.
They had a goose that was laying golden eggs but it’s dead now.
Even after a few studies and surveys have been done on this issue, and all have listed the Anthem issue as the number one reason for declining ratings, they still don’t get it.

A good start would be players not protesting refusing to play with those that are. Simply tell the coach, “If he kneels for the Anthem we will not play if he is in the game.”
That might pull in the soccer moms and such?
Blaming Netflix for not having commercials is not the problem, well... maybe it is a big factor.
I find myself running Netflix or Amazon Prime rather than watching a regular TV channel. I also watch some TV programs via TiVo recording because I can skip commercials.
I find myself watching a commercial TV program when I intend to surf the web on my laptop. Initially, my plan is to surf during commercials, but that often extends into the TV program, as well.
Just think how bad the ratings would be without fantasy football.
Pay me to watch.
