Peaceful protests were held for days outside of their offices and as a result many of the governors and politicians were successfully shamed into resigning their positions in disgrace. Others, who refused to resign were successfully voted out of office during the next election cycle.
2) After the nullification of the results and the true president took office the leaders and people of the Orange Revolution strongly sought to hold President Yushchenko accountable to keep his pledged promises to rid the Ukrainian government of its corruption.
Unfortunately, they were less successful on accomplishing this goal for several reasons; a number of which were not President Yushenk's fault.
a) Unbeknownst to the Ukrainian population at large, the Kremlin's attempt to kill Yushchenko via poisoning him with a lethal dose of TCCD, the most potent Dioxin found in Agent Orange had left President Yushchenko seriously/deathly ill. So much so that during his term as president he secretly underwent 27 seperate operations.
President Yushchenko was able to keep these operations a secret by leaving work early on Thursday, undergoing the operation on Thursday or Friday, convalescing Saturday and Sunday and returning to work on Monday. The seriousness of his injuries and the secret operations and treatment he underwent to save his life have only recently become public knowledge.
This had a direct effect on his stamina and ability to accomplish all that he intended.
b) Before President Yushchenko was sworn in, the corrupt acting president Kuchma had his cronies, who held a majority of seats in the Rada pass a law which stripped the president of much of his power. *Note: These same people in the Rada had previously voted to give President Kuchma these added executive powers in the first place in order to personally enrich themselves.
c) Under the terms agreed upon by Yushchenko in order to overturn the election and to hold new free and fair elections Yushchenko was forced to accept his presidential rival the corrupt Russian mafia felon Yanokovich as Prime Minister (the second most powerful position in the government). Yanokovich d) Corruption within the Ukraine government was rife, entrenched and endemic. Dispute his best of intentions President Yushchenko was unsuccessful in ultimately accomplishing this goal. However, he did succeed in cleaning up the corrupt police department by removing a massive number of corrupt policemen throughout the Ukraine.
Thank you for all this information. We have voted out a lot of bums in congress, but they didn’t accomplish a whole lot as far as I’m concerned. The house is supposed to hold the purse strings, and they had the power but were afraid to use it because they were too worried about being reelected. So Obama got all the money he wanted and what he didn’t get he just circumvented.
The other problem we have is so many immigrants not qualified to vote that do, but the establishment has overturned any effort to stop it. I don’t think you had that problem in Ukraine, or did you?
