The NFL's television ratings are down across the board and the league has blamed the decline on the presidential election. However, if that were the biggest reason, we would expect to see a similar decline in the MLB playoffs and that has not been the case.
After posting strong TV ratings during the early rounds of the playoffs, the World Series is off to a huge start with fans, averaging more than 19.0 million viewers through two games, according to Sports Media Watch. That's up 32% from last year and matches the Yankees-Phillies matchup in 2009 for the top-rated World Series in the past 11 years.
Over the last few years, the average World Series game has drawn a TV audience that was comparable to a "Monday Night Football" game. But while the World Series is way up this year, "Monday Night Football's" average audience is down 22%, much like the rest of the NFL.

As I posted in another thread....
baseball players aren’t viewed as a bunch of anti American a$$holes.
Anything but Kaepernick ...
“I would pay to see someone shove Joe Bucks head into a toilet and flush it”
Yep. Brain-dead Joe Buck and his brain-damaged partner; TRYING to listen to those two made me realize that concussions are catching.
The NFL is running a patriotic ad now tieing the legacy of the US Army with NFL teams. Cynical bastards can ESAD.
“Anybody know how much Krapernicks little temper tantrum is costing the NFL?”
Well, 20% of many billions has got to be billions, but the owners did it to themselves: they could have shut this shite down, in particulary they could have read the riot act to the kommie networks like the Disney-owned thicket of sports channels to stop featuring this crap on camera, and ordered their coaches to have have some private talks with their asshole employees.
I still remember listening a few years ago when there was discussion about players changing cleats due to field conditions. Joe Buck said to Troy Aikman, “I wish I knew what was longer, a 3/8, a half, or a 5/8 inch cleat... you played in the NFL Troy, do you know?” I almost fell off the couch. As if there is some special inch measurement reserved only for the NFL. Dumb@$$.
Something was pointed out on Facebook that I had not considered before. Look at the drama that ensued when Tim Tebow took a knee in thanks to God versus Kaeperdick taking a knee to offend his country. Tebow was literally run out of the NFL. I have no idea if Tebow was a crappy player, a prima donna... I wasn’t on the field or in their locker room. All I know is that the overreaction to Tebow (and not just his display, but to Tebow himself) was akin to how a group of mean pre-teen girls would react to another pretty girl walking by. It was ridiculous.
Goodell is the Michael Eisner of sports.
Yup, great evidence.
I am watching the WS, despite not being huge on baseball, and not having a dog in the fight. But it is not to counter the NFL. I just feel real sorry for the Cubs and would like to see them win. I was so excited to see the Sox win back in ‘04, despite being Oriole fan.
Still watching the NFL, and going to a game next week. But I don’t blame anyone for getting ticked off.
The NFL has a character problem and Goodell seems to be responsible.
