Vince Lombardi vs. Bill Belichick: Should title trophy be renamed?

"Which coach is more deserving of being the face of the Super Bowl trophy: the man in the suit and tie OR the one in the hoodie?"

Gadzooks and General Jackson-- Really?

Hey, as a Dallas Cowboys fan from day one of their existence, believe me, if any one should hate Vince Lombardi, it would be a Cowboys fan who was alive and watching when the Packers beat my Boys in the Cotton Bowl in 1966 and in the Ice Bowl in 1967--

However, as much as I hated the cursed Packers and their coach who embodied the "Winning is not everything, it is the only thing" philosophy, over the years I realized I had a grudging admiration for those Green and Gold guys who ran that power sweep ("Seal-- Seal-- Seal!") to perfection and the architect who brought the whole thing about in the 1960s glory days for Green Bay.

Now there was never, ever any hint of any kind that Vince Lombardi ever cut ethical corners or, shall we say, cheated to win a football game. That cannot be said about Bill Belichick and his organization.

Yes, Bill has won and continues to win in today's NFL but he will forever have an asterisk shadow beside his name, his team and their record. Just like all those guys who played baseball back in the steroid period, it taints them forever.

So, keep the Super Bowl Trophy clean and scandal free by keeping Vince Lombardi name on it.

I have nothing negative to say about Belichick and his so called “cheating”, but this is a preposterous suggestion, clickbait really. They could have done an article comparing them and asking which is greater without adding in that wrinkle.

You don’t spit on history by taking names like Vince Lombardi’s off of things, I’m no Packer fan but that guy was a bleeping legend, I have a quote of his on my FR page.

And such honors are best not bestowed on living people, hopefully Belichick has a lot of time left, they can discuss maybe naming something after him when the time is right.
