Twitter, Spotify and Reddit, and a huge swath of other websites were down or screwed up this morning. This was happening as hackers unleashed a large distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on the servers of Dyn, a major DNS host. Its probably safe to assume that the two situations are related.

Local radio called it a” distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, which occurs when a system is overwhelmed by malicious electronic traffic.”
Don’t worry, the Department of Homeland Security is on it.

seems like a lot of trouble just to stop wikileaks.
Just sayin...
It’s bigger than that now. Add TX, Kalif and Seattle
Can you think. of another reason why we should bring back paper ballots for elections ?
OBunglers electronic war against imaginary Wikleaks !

Coincidence that they would be reporting an attack on the embassy just as the DDoS hit. What are the chances? Must be their lucky day.
FR is running better than it has been the last few days.
Perhaps FReepers can’t get here?
I have had full expectation of internet difficulties up to election day. Specifically to avoid mass reporting of voter fraud. I predict it will fall down hard on election day.
“This may be a disruption to cover another op. Watch the periphery carefully.”
Periphery covered. She seems to know you, too. Day for a shitload of weirdness, I guess.
CONTRIVED TO INTERFERE WITH VOTING RESULTS
“Update - At this time, the advanced service monitoring issue has been resolved. Our engineers are still investigating and mitigating the attacks on our infrastructure.
Oct 21, 18:52 UTC”
The Internet Storm Center reports Threat Level Green.
Other than the DDOS on Dyn, nothing else major seems to be going on.
Twitter still not working. Fails immediately.
I think FR might seem or feel to be running faster right now because a large chunk of the broadband Internet links are basically underutilized right now.
Think of it like driving down the freeway at 3 a.m. with little traffic.
I believe this is the US Gov (AKA O & CONgress) trying to scrub anything that Wiki etal haven’t or even have gotten already:-)
Twitter down in my area of Fla.
“I cant hit the FreeRepublic, says something about a DNS issue, can anybody help, Im not kidding, the FR is down and I dont know what to do ...”
Are you pinging from the Clinton Foundation?
It was a trial run of the US cyber attack against Russia.
The only way to kill the talk about Killary is to shut down the internet. Ain’t great, the turd in the blight house, gave, something he doesn’t own, the internet to the UN?
All hail your fundamental change!
I got some improvement by switching to the Google DNS servers, located at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, but there are still some sites with no resolution.
If you put the IPs of these sites in your hosts file, of course, then everything is running normally for you.
