As for the military and 20 million protestors, our military could take them out low-tech. Electric gatling guns, napalm, etc. Herd them toward a river or some other obstacle in a panicked rout.
Cobble that with a news blackout, and we would all be confused, feel isolated, etc.
I find it interesting that a 20 million man march was suggested in particular because of Bill Ayers’ Weather Underground.
They assumed they would have to kill 25 million people to transform our nation.
