Well actually it was far more than you think. My grandmother was a German woman who lived through it, and by the time they realized what Hitler was really about it was too late. Speak out and be killed. Besides that they were defenseless because all of the weapons in the hands of the citizenry were confiscated.
Had Hitler remained involved in only Germany instead of seeking to expand Germany and defeat all of Germany's enemies, it might be viewed differently.

Communist, Nazi, fascist they are all so closely related that they overlap in certain areas. But I was just answering with the descriptor the person I was responding to had used.
