The Stars honored five officers slain in downtown Dallas this summer, wearing decals of their badges on their helmets during a season-opening 4-2 win.
Family members of two of the slain officers, Dallas police Sgt. Michael Smith and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer Brent Thompson, participated in the pregame ceremonial puck drop.
The captains for both teams, Jamie Benn of the Stars and Ryan Getzlaf of the visiting Anaheim Ducks, joined them at center ice. When introduced, the families got a long and loud ovation in the arena only a few blocks from where the five officers were killed by a sniper on July 7.
The other officers killed were Dallas police Sr. Cpl. Lorne Ahrens and Dallas police officers Michael Krol and Patrick Zamarripa.
Well that’s not how the refs saw it :) But hey, I don’t hold a grudge and can let poor calls go.
Easy to say when your town has won numerous championships. Remember, we also had ‘wide right’.
More like that’s how Bettman (sp) saw it. No Goal!
Only championships I care about are the Stanley Cup and maybe one day if they stop choking, a Texas Rangers World Series.
This is the first season in 12-15 years that I have watched a Cowboys game by choice. I have no love for Jerry Jones and stopped watching when he canned Jimmy Johnson. He can thank Dak Prescott and Zeke Elliot for bringing me back.
As for the Mavericks, cannot stand Mark Cuban and I don’t like basketball.
We all have our thoughts on what could have, should have happened. What happened, happened. Can’t go back and change it. Best of luck to whatever team you support.
Buffalo suffers from a civic inferiority complex. We are like a teenage girl. We so worry about people to like us. We are convinced if we can win ONE championship, everything will be better. We have come close, but we always fall short, usually by a controversy, or something. It is how we are.
