This entity, Atlas Obscura, is an amazing publication. I have seen one other Freeper using it.

With an overnight stay aboard? OK, I would do that.

And the turrets were stacked. I though the Brits made some odd looking ships, but I gotta see this one.

And 2 kilotons of firepower in a 16 incher. I’m thinking he meant 2000 pound shells. The only nuke round it had carried and estimated 15-20 Kt.

This article is a tour de force of comedy. Can it also fly in space like in that Japanese cartoon?

I didn’t serve aboard her, but was invited aboard her by her JAG when she made a port visit to Oslo, Norway back in the 80s when I was stationed there. Their JAG had a battle station in the CIC and he invited us down there too. Very impressive old girl.

Among my most memorable memories was witnessing a broadside of Iowa’s nine 16 inch guns. My viewpoint was from the flight deck of the USS Saratoga, which couldn’t have been more than a quarter mile in trail behind and to starboard of the IOWA. The shock wave from that distance was impressive.

I am Game.

Sadly I don't live in L.A.

In 2001 The Harbor Master of Benicia California was kind enough to give us a tour of the Reserve Fleet and I got REALLY close two The Iowa there.

It was amazing!

I got paid to stay on an aircraft carrier. Will I pay to stay on a battleship? Our Navy is the best in the world! However, I am done staying on military ships.

Those with Iowa state IDs get the basic tour for free.

BTW, here are the armaments made clearer:

https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/uss-iowa-bb-61-vs-ijn-yamato.5662/

...The Iowa-class battleships had nine 16-inch guns in three triple turrets. Each big gun had a range of 20.54 nautical miles (23.64 statute miles / 38 kilometers).

The Iowa-class battleships also bristled with anti-aircraft guns as part of their carrier escort role. These included 20 5-inch guns, 80 1.6-inch guns, and 49 .8-inch guns...

...the USS Iowa had the biggest guns on any U.S. Navy ship, used primarily for anti-aircraft missions: nine 16-inch guns mounted on three stacked turrets on the flight deck (capable of carrying 2000 tons of firepower).

Who writes these things, and where do they get their so-called information? The only anti-air missions for which a 16 inch naval gun is suited is if the planes are on the ground at an airfield within range of the ship. You can't shoot down fast moving aircraft with slow moving big guns except by accident! And since when do battleships have a flight deck? < /ex-Navy 5" gun loader rant >

Anything from this author in the future should be banned. He's not smart enough on this subject.

Does that price include someone stumbling loudly into your berthing area around 3:30am , shining a bright flashlight in your eyes and yelling, “NEXT WATCH!”

If not you are not getting the full experience.

Stayed overnight on two separate occasions on the USS Alabama in Mobile when my boys were going through boy scouts. The bunks (3 high hanging on chains) are surprisingly comfortable...or maybe I was just really tired.
