As a showcase for great Shakepearean actors they are OK, but I agree, they don’t translate well. The stage tradition is another thing entirely.
There’s a Shakespeare play made into a movie with an all nude cast. Sir John Gilgud was in it. I got up and left. It was flat out boring AND offensive, which may have been the point.
