A draw. No major knockout on either side. Trump stood up for himself when necessary. I don't think it will move the needle, and Krauthammer made a good observation: Draws usually go to the challenger, and that is Donald Trump.
If I were to advise Trump, it would consist of the following:
1) Complete your sentences. You are giving the audience too much credit for figuring out what you mean when you shoot off two or three words.
2) Stop repeating the same point 5 or 6 times. You are wasting time.
3) Speak less to broad concepts and more to the common man.
4) Affability matters. Reagan won on affability. Smile a little more, but not with that forced weird smile Hillary plastered on most of the debate. Also, an affable Reaganesque "There you go again"-style phrase, queued up and ready to go when appropriate, would work wonders.
5) Next time, don't leave those hanging slow pitches unswatted. For example, when Hillary talks about your charity, mention her Clinton Foundation that only gives out 6% of it's money to charitable works. Also, speak more about how Hillary is the DC Establishment, and you are there to challenge that. Many people will identify that as a key takeaway.
On the whole I give Hillary high marks, and Trump close but not as good. Stylistically Hillary did very well, but in content Trump nailed it a few times.
However, he needs to take a reality check and prepare more in a structured debate setting. Obama had a HORRIBLE first debate and came back strong. Trump wasnt horrible, but he needs to come back strong. I know he can do it.
It is your mistake. Laz the skirt chaser is self deprecating humor that mocks male shallowness. Most everyone here gets the joke which is why he’s a popular poster.
Yeah, but I’m dreaming of seeing Trump use her moderately slick talking against her by making that point. “She’s a good talker, the Clintons are slick talkers. Voting for slick-talking politicians is what got us into this mess.”
Did you notice that her father’s “profession” changed all three times? First he was a fabric pattern screen printer (in which she used the term “paint” - anyone who’s been around a screen printer knows that it’s “ink”). Next, he was a drapery hanger, and the third I can’t remember. And yeah, I’m still steamed at that ‘smile’.
Reminded me of Al Goron sighing all the time in his debate with Bush. Leftists can’t help exposing their haughty arrogance.
Actually, I recall him doing something rather like that! I forget the exact phrases he used, but I was startled by how well it played.
Shush, you.
You give away my secrets! :)
“Hitlery talked about the importance of cyber security and Trump failed to ask her why she had a server in her bathroom.”
I assumed that would be his rejoinder. Was surprised he let it go.
Trump did well with the cards being stacked against him by Holt; he stood up to Holt, made him shut up, and did the same with Hillary.
I really can’t comment much on the smug Hillary; she was so boring and canned that my attention would drift and I wondered how Trump could actually listen to her most of the time.
But her lies were so flippant and blatant. The Bush administration was who put sanctions on Iran. Trump never said he didn’t care if there was a nuclear was in
Asia. Trump has never called “WOMEN “ pigs, etc., he called a “WOMAN” that, and she deserved it completely.
The Clintons are political VD, and Trump must be the penicillin.
Yeah, Biden laughed at all of Palin’s comments too in their debate. They only do that when they’re scared or intimidated.
Trump connects with people, Hillary doesn’t.
In the weeks leading up to Reagan’s first debate the MSM had painted the retired Hollywood actor as an ignorant bumpkin who had no business being in the White House. The undecideds wanted to know who this ‘scary’ conservative really was, and whether he had what it took to become President of the United States.
In the first debate he didn’t do all that well. Carter caught him flat footed a few times and laid in some well-rehearsed attack lines. The media then promptly declared Carter the winner.
A week later the media couldn’t believe that Reagan’s polls went *up* afterwards. They were absolutely flabbergasted.
Why did it happen? It was because Reagan knew that America was going in the wrong direction, and he spoke about it with conviction and with heart. Meanwhile Carter was stiff and rattled off his well-rehearsed talking points.
Hillary in comparison is a robot. The empathy just isn’t there, and that is a big factor for the LIVs and undecideds.
ooops...
Not in boxing. "You have to beat the champ to be the champ" is an old boxing rule. Not sure if POTUS is like boxing, but I think Hillary maintained, which is probably enough to hold the belt.
I wanted Trump to annihilate Hillary tonight.
Having said that, I remember well how everyone was saying around here that he had to be ‘reasonable.’ Well, he did the ‘reasonable’ thing.
We’ll see how it works out.
Trump did fine for his first-ever Presidential debate. Corrupt-o-crat lifelong politician Hillary has participated in 34 primary debates.
Trump needs to do better next time.
On to Debate #2!
I was too young then to know how the Reagan Carter debates went. Thanks for the information. It is hopeful stuff for Mr. Trump! :)
“smiling like a raccoon eating fish guts off a wire brush”-PJ O’Rourke
I didn’t like DJT committing to support her if she wins.
BTW, that spectacle did not even pass for a debate. And illary not only had the questions in advance, she planted someone in the audience to use with one of her responses!
