I feel bad for her, but for the cynical, there’s a lot of joke material here.
At least she wasn’t trying to import foreign fruit. Customs is (understadably) very strict about that.
My father-in-law died last year. He was cremated, and his ashes were sent to his children. The red tape around the sterile ashes was incredible. Sealed box, certification, etc. My wife’s afraid to take portions of the ashes on a plane to distribute to some of his favorite spots, thinking they’ll be mistaken for some drug, and she’ll wind up on a no-fly list. I guess we’ll have to do a driving tour.
it’s alimentary, my dear...
Stepson died and was cremated in Costa Rica a few years back. Getting his ashes through customs was like a bad comedy of errors. There was one other guy there, a dentist who was trying to import dental equipment from Pakistan. Only time in my life I’ve ever seen actual red tape. It was attached to the paperwork from the US embassy in San Jose with the death certificate, medical report etc. It still took the customs officer a half hour to try to read through all the paperwork before he’d release the urn to us.
