On one such occasion, I got the coldest, most hateful stare from an elderly Christian lady who proceeded to launch into a 10 minute diatribe extolling the virtues of all sports, professional and non-professional alike. Needless to say, I terminated the “friendship” and never looked back!
I seriously had the habit for about 15 years, but like you I kicked it and don't miss it a bit. I became alarmed at the criminality and general loutishness of the players, and when leftist politics crept in I lost all respect for it.
