Usually what happens with passenger jets that have reached their maximum cycles (a cycle is one take off and landing) they’re picked up by leasing agents either to be sold or scrapped. When one buys a bizjet as an example they usually do a lease-back where the plane is available to be leased out when the buyer is not using it. This gives some income back to the buyer and the maintenance is done by the lease back org. You can find out how some things work by going to https://wheelsup.com/ - this will give you some idea how this works. I’m not in tune on how it all works since I fly them, not buy them. :)
