I am fascinated by this. You see, George Orwell miscalculated. In '1984', he envisioned a world where government would control the populace through technology - television, computers, etc. The thing he didn't see was that the people would eventually get their own portable computers and video cameras and tie them together.

The police were the first 'victims' of this (think Rodney King), but now everyone is on the public's watch, and it can race around the world in a blink of an eye. Add the Julian Assanges and Edward Snowdens of the world, and it is obvious, to that there is an effort to turn the table on '1984'. The people do have power.

Agree with what you’re saying, but notice the tension has shifted.
Used to be an inherent tension between the free press and the government.
Now that the the press has become a part of the government, the tension / watchdog role has shifted to the citizenry, with the press needing to cover its own ass as well as it’s master’s.

The PTB now want the citizen journalists to have the power when it serves them (BLM) but not when it exposes them (Daleiden vs Planned Parenthood/ baby parts.)
How to control these citizen journalists? That is the question.
