Health officials in Massachusetts are trying to figure out what caused a large flock of birds to fall out of the sky and onto a Boston street.
NECN reports 46 songbirds were found Thursday in the citys Dorchester neighborhood.
Some of the grackles were found dead, while others were just sick.

"46 songbirds fall from sky in Boston".
Grackles are "songbirds" just like Trevon and Michael Brown were innocent children.
You have to admire the AP's consistent total disregard for facts!
A stinking grackle is NO song bird... GOOD RIDDANCE..!
With operant conditioning you can train a crow to do just about anything.
Sure, if a call that sounds like a squeaky supermarket trolley wheel is a “song”.
I recall one occasion at a fast food place, I noticed that there was scattering of food trash in the parking lot. This bonanza had attracted a number of crows and seagulls.
What was interesting was that the crows kept to themselves, as did the seagulls.
Even birds are racist.
As annoying as crows can be at 5:30 AM if you have a bunch near your house, it is hard not to admire them. They are very interesting creatures. My favorite story was related by a hunter:
Every year when he went deer hunting on his property, the crows would silently follow him around, making no noise, waiting until he bagged a deer and removed the gut-pack, after which they would swoop in for the feast. That part didn’t surprise him, he figured they knew a good thing when they saw it.
What he didn’t understand is how they seemed to know the exact day the hunting season would begin. When he would come out of his back door, ready to go, the crows were ready to go as well, sitting everywhere getting ready to follow him.
What the Hell...could crows read signs or calendars??? Then he realized one year, that they figured it out by watching him through his windows. As soon as he started pulling out all of his hunting gear, putting it on his dining room table, waterproofing his boots, cleaning his gun and such, the word got out in the crow world: He’s almost ready to go...be prepared to follow!
blackbirds’ lives matter
“A .177 pellet bounces off the damn things.”
Lol! A number of years ago, I had just planted a new pasture of about a couple acres. It only took about a day before the grackles discovered it. They came in by the thousands! You’re correct that pellets just bounced right off them. Even number 7 shot out of a .410 bounced off them at the distance it was fired from. However, there were so many that if one waited until 2 or 3 were lined up in a row, a .22 would penetrate all three. Even after the noise of the shot scared them off, they’d all fly back in about a minute. Quite the pest!
Great one!

It is as corny as the day is long, but the first time I read it, I was sucked in until nearly the end...:)
LOL, I remember thinking (as a Massachusetts resident) “ARE YOU FRIKKING KIDDING ME? WE SPENT MONEY ON THIS CRAP...” as I was reading, then got to the end...hook, line, and sinker.
Not like wasting money on stupid, useless studies is anything new around here...
On a more sober side, there was a movie called “Charlie Victor Romeo” available on Netflix (which was apparently a stage play first) where they re-enact aviation mishaps on a stage made out to resemble the cockpits of the various planes, and one of those accidents was the crash of the E-3 Sentry up in Elmendorf AFB caused by a flock of birds...that one was frightening, even as a re-enaction by actors...

Holy crap it looks like the birds are trying to carry off the plane!
I saw crows mobbing a hawk last spring——fascinating.
I had seen them mobbing Bald Eagles on You Tube but had never actually seen it done.
.
Such is life for a crow...eat little birds out of a nest, humans get you with a shotgun!
Crows recognize human faces and can remember them up to five years, too. I like to watch them.
