Browsers will generally accept very badly malformed HTML and auto-correct most errors, like the missing first three lines. The question is, when Drudge's home page looks normal (without the back-tick), does the HTML have the first three lines. I tried to use the google cache to look for an old copy of the page; but the google cache is already updated to the current version of the page we are seeing now.

Good theory about the tick. As I posted earlier, I believe that I have seen the tick before and assumed it was an error. I do not recall it preceding any major news announcement.
Seems like the tick would be widely known by fans if it was a thing with Drudge.
Where are you getting this? I’ve followed DRUDGE religiously for more than 20 years and never heard this. Can you provide anything to back up your claim?
