What I don’t understand about Hollywood is that to anyone outside Hollywood this remake sounded like a really bad idea so why didn’t Hollywood figure that out too?
Trying to remake “Ben Hur” without Charlton Heston is like trying to remake “The Godfather” without Marlon Brando and Al Pachino.

The era of special effects and surround sound for movies, particularly for viewing on home "theaters", has added to the death spiral of Hollywood movies.
Hollywood loves remakes. First they don’t have to pay anything to the author in royalties as the copyrights have expired. And they generally can count on a certain number of people to go out of nostalgia or just to compare the films. They can usually count on at least not losing any money. But then most aren’t 100 million dollar summer “blockbusters”.
Haven’t seen the movie, I’ll watch it when it’s free on Netflix, Amazon or HBO.
Apparently, it's the money. Films cost so much these days that it is hard to persuade banks or the studios to take a risk on an unknown concept. It's much safer to invest in a film that is a proven success. Hence all these remakes.
