It wasn't stolen by Google, it was given to them. Unix/Linux are developed under an open-source license. EVERYONE is free to use it as they see fit and most of them return the favor by providing all their improvements and enhancements to the open-source community. I do this and I know Google does too. Don't get me wrong, Google truly sucks as a business entity but in this case Android is a great code base for anyone interested in coding to use and build on.
