Your deliberate effort to confuse may be working; but it does not take anything away from the basic point. Both dogs and cats are far more intelligent than human arrogance likes to admit. Edgar Allan Poe observed the point in the 1830s or 1840s.
Personally, I have observed clear indications of a rather developed sense of humor in both species--as I am sure have a great many others.
