Dinesh and Tarakeshwari Rathod, both police constables, said they reached the top of the world's highest mountain on May 23.
But fellow climbers cast doubt on their claim, saying their photos at the summit were doctored.
Nepal's tourism department initially certified their claim but later conducted an investigation.

Faked a climb? Maybe Hillary has a job for them.
A 10 year ban for taking a silly photo and telling a white lie? Give me break!Nepal is indeed governed by canonized saints.
Dinesh and Tarakeshwari Rathod
As I read the story they were involving the Nepal government into certifying the lie.

Uhm, it isn’t.
They should have signed on to one of the many outfitters that lead that guided hike up the mountain on a route already fitted with ropes and ladders...........At a cost of about $30K
Say it isn’t so.
No way you can go up for 30K these days. It’s well into 6 figures with the outfitters, even more so with the additional safety precautions they have to take.
He looks like he is in no shape for such climb.
OK, I'm wrong......

Please, watch the movie “Everest” and then tell me what you think.
We just watched that last weekend (ok, not the whole thing, pretty much the last 1/3 I would guess). It totally freaked me out.
It’s the story of the disastrous 1996 expedition that is also chronicled in Jon Krakauer’s book “Into Thin Air”. But this movie is not based on that book and there’s some conflict between the stories of those who survived.
I think faking that you’ve climbed Everest is quite despicable and must closer to fraud than to a white lie.
