That’s my big concern.

In the end, we could probably ‘wire out’ the current domain name system and start something from scratch. But entire moountains of data would get deleted along the way.

My own opinion (with zero facts to back it up mind you ...) is that mountains of valuable data have already been deleted, and things like the Internet Way Back Machine and Internet Archives among others are easy pickings for the NSA for example. Remove the domain name and 90% or more of people won't be able to get to it. Seize the physical assets and it's over.

Or worse: unknown viruses and malware that the NSA has at the ready are unleashed and entire information repositories including those on our own personal PC's and anyplace online are wiped out in a matter of hours.

The only safe information is that information that's kept OFFLINE, isn't connected to a computer that's connected to the Internet, and is only connected to a computer that's never been ON the Internet when it's needed.

No, I'm not paranoid. Really, I'm not!
