VANITY: Any FReeper have any idea how much it might cost to have a contractor cut a hole into a basement concrete foundation and install a relatively full size window?

Probably would cost more in Boston area than here in Wisconsin. Several years ago, we had a window/escape installed in our basement, and it was about $8,000, IIRC. Window includes steps to the outside though (required by code).
Your son doesn’t need a window. The light from his video game should be enough.

I didn’t cut a window. I did cut a window sized square. It cost $500. They use a very serious wet diamond blade, and they were done in well under an hour. You have to figure out what to do with the concrete on the floor/ground.
I don’t know the cost but my neighbor just put in an egress window in their house. It took 3 guys, 2 days to complete. They hand dug it, used a concrete saw to cut the block, framed it, installed the window, put the large window well in and hauled off the dirt.
Ask the cholos’ in front of Home Depot. Yell “trabajo” and they’ll give you a good quote.
$30 for a sledge hammer and $75 for a window should do it. Assuming the wall is above ground, otherwise you need to get a shovel too.
Definitely will need a lental to support the upper foundation.
Casement windows are not that expensive. What will be expensive will be labor and permits.
It would depend upon too many things you’ve not mentioned. It is not an astoundingly difficult thing to cut concrete, it’s done all the time.
Any need to dig out earth piled up against the foundation? Once you dig out earth, if necessary, is there now going to be a tendency to collect water and thus a need to mitigate same?
What size is a “full sized window”? Specify a size.
What’s the nature of the foundation wall? 24” of river rock? Concrete block? Poured concrete of nominal thickness?
How close to the proposed opening is the siding, in other words, will the siding interfere with running a concrete saw along the upper (or lower or side) lines of the opening?
If you consider these things, a concrete contractor can come out and offer some sort of bid.

It will depend on the house and the local wages and building codes. The foundation is supporting the weight of the house, so you might need to add reinforcement if you’re going to do something to compromise the structural support. As one poster suggested, you will probably have to contact a structural engineer in order to find out the full extent of the work involved.
As far as the local area goes - I could get some bubba with a concrete saw to do it for $100 here in Florida (if we had basements). In the city you’re going to have to deal with more building codes and higher wages.

Hell just call Boston PD and say you saw a man with an AR15 or AK47 in the window you need demolished. They’ll blow it down for nothing!
My mom did it when she bought and remodeled...not to bad especially if it requires no digging.

Here in Maryland it would be around $5K to $7K from a reputable dealer who guarantees the work. They have to use diamond blades, and also find a way to take away or bury the heavy slab.
it’s a pretty solid foundation circling the house doubt that cutting a hole will have much impact on the rest of the house.
yea a small amount of dirt will need to be dug.
it’s my moms house that has a 10 year old apartment addition built on the second floor and a small in-law apartment in the basement.
I want to move in upstairs to help my mom with the mortgage and save some $$$ myself.
my 18 yr old niece has been hogging the upstairs for a while now and my plan is to ship her down to the basement apartment but the one prob is that the bedroom has no window and it can get pretty stuffy down there.
Another FReeper had a point about finding some Mexicans...
